Hymn to the Sun I: Alpenglow
“Thou art distant, but thy rays are upon the earth.”
Beyond frozen water and tangled underbrush, mountains reflect warm sunlight.
Light and dark bands cross this piece horizontally. The lower bands carry ink dots, linocut rubbings, and other implied textures, on opaque and translucent papers. Above, a charcoal sketch of dark brush and mountains has been torn apart and reassembled; hieroglyphic fragments and other dark textures unify the undergrowth. Ivory paper and pastel define the sun’s lingering warmth on mountain peaks, below a dark sky.
